Spruce Tip Dunkel

Surrounded by tree-covered mountains, we wait all year for our chance to brew with fresh spruce tips, a historic beer ingredient that has been used for hundreds of years in place of hops. Earlier this summer, we were granted permission to sustainably harvest new-growth spruce tips from an idyllic mountainside in the Pisgah Forest, just west of our North Carolina brewery. A traditional Munich-style dunkel lager provides the foundation for our annual spruce beer, balancing smooth malt flavor with intense aromas of pine.
