Dumpstaphunk W/ Starchild Jr. & Object Heavy
Big Room | Chico
Their original music and prolific live performances combine ingenious musicianship exercised within complex funk, rock, and R&B arrangement
DETAILS
Dumpstaphunk has cemented its reputation as one of the most respected New Orleans musical institutions. Ivan Neville (keyboards/vocals) and Ian Neville (guitar), the sons of Aaron Neville and Art “Poppa Funk” Neville respectively, alongside original member Tony Hall (bass, guitar, vocals) have built upon their iconic NOLA legacy as they’ve transformed Dumpstaphunk into the city’s pre-eminent 21st-century funk-fusion export. Both in the studio and on the stage, their performances have attracted sit-ins from the likes of Carlos Santana, Flea, Bob Weir, George Clinton, Chaka Khan, Dave Matthews, Trombone Shorty, and members of Phish amongst many others.
With the 2024 passing of elder statesmen, local legend bassist/vocalist and co-founder of the band Nick Daniels III, the group continues its latest genesis with next generation additions including Deven Trusclair (drums), Alex Wasily (trombone), Ashlin Parker (trumpet), John Michael Bradford (trumpet), Ari Teitel (guitar) and special guest vocalist Rebekkah Todd and others along the way. Critical acclaim and undeniable musicality permeate their 4 studio albums and opening slots for the Rolling Stones on their home turf at the New Orleans Mercedes Benz Superdome (2019) and New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Fest (2024). Modernizing and reinvigorating the influential Neville/Meters family groove has been one of the driving forces of Dumpstaphunk since the band spontaneously formed during JazzFest in 2003. Their original music and prolific live performances combine ingenious musicianship excercised within complex funk, rock, and R&B arrangements accompanied by soulful quadruple harmonies and Big Easy traditions.

Hard-hitting soul sensation Object Heavy out of Arcata, CA is joining forces with Garrett Shider aka Starchild Jr. of Parliament-Funkadelic fame. Garret will lead this dynamic crew blending Object Heavy favorites with the songbook of early Parliament-Funkadelic tracks.
Starchild Jr…. Garrett is literally a clone created on the Mothership as his dad was Parliament-Funkadelic’s diaper clad guitarist and frontman Garry Shider. Garrett’s music is a direct reflection of the lessons learned from his funky father and the P-Funk crew. His style uses the same concepts of The One, lyrical expression, musical melodies with metaphorical and satirical humor made famous by P- Funk, but with Garrett’s own twist. Starchild Jr. is currently performing with the alignment of Parliament-Funkadelic taking over many of his dad’s parts. He might as well have been performing since birth, earning his first writer’s credit at the age of 6 (Pumpin It Up from P-funk All Stars album Urban Dance Floor Guerillas), also appearing on The Red-Hot Chili Peppers Freaky Styley at the age of 7. In addition, he has been honing his talents at DC’s Duke Ellington School of the Arts where he has had the opportunity to perform with the likes of Stevie Wonder, Anita Baker, Kenny Loggins, Ray Charles, and countless other artists. “The kid” is beyond ready to fill those funky diapers left behind by his lineage!
