Dragon Smoke w/ Lo & Behold DESCRIPTION:\nDragon Smoke band members: Eric Lindell\, Robert Mecurio (Galactic)\, Stanton Moore (Galactic) and Ivan Neville (Dumpstaphunk\, The Neville Brothers) \nDragon Smoke is a band that formed as part of the New Orleans Jazz Fest tradition known as the “Superjam”. The “Superjam” idea is to put together a band of people who don’t normally play together and see what happens. With the dual vocals of Neville and Lindell\, matched with the Galactic rhythm section\, the band quickly realized\, “We are on to something” and has played every Jazz Fest since it’s inception in 2003. This inception took place at the famed Dragon’s Den\, hence the name of the band. \nThe music centers around Lindell’s blue eyed soul \, Neville’s funk and R&B\, and Galactic’s groove. Besides a few trips to the West Coast\, this band has been strictly playing in New Orleans. With everyone in the band being a leader on their own\, it is rare to get this band together. And when it does\, it shows that these guys are really having FUN! From the interplay between the members\, you would think that Dragon Smoke has been playing shows forever. \nDragon Smoke is looking towards the future\, with plans to write and record an album and to do more touring outside of New Orleans and the Bay Area. So be on the lookout for the Smoke—IF YOU SEE SMOKE\, YOU KNOW YOU WILL SEE FIRE! \nWatch Dragon Smoke \n\n\n URL:https://sierranevada.com/event/sierra-nevada-presents-dragon-smoke/ LOCATION:Big Room\, 1075 East 20th Street\, Chico\, CA\, 95928\, United States CATEGORIES:Sierra Nevada Presents! Lee Fields & The Expressions w/ Astronaut Ice Cream DESCRIPTION:Soul music pours out of Lee Fields\, as free and unstinting as God’s love. It has ever since the 1960s\, when he was a teenager in North Carolina sweating it out on juke joint stages\, crumpled dollars hailing at his feet. It continues now that the living legend is in his late sixties\, ushering in the most successful and fruitful period of his career. \nLike any living legend worth their salt\, Fields has suffered despair\, obscurity\, defeat. Although he now tours stages around the world\, and although he helped fellow soul legends like Sharon Jones (who was once Fields’ backup singer) and Charles Bradley (whom Fields took on his first tour) get their first break\, he did not always have this position. There were years — they were known as “the 1980s” — when Fields nearly gave up. His success these days\, then has a bittersweet tinge: His dear friends Bradley and Jones have both passed\, leaving Fields to outlive them and carry their legacy forth. \nToday\, he stands at the forefront of the soul revival\, a bustling and ever-growing corner that has nourished the nutrient-starved waters of 21st century pop music with virtues it lacks: a sense of timelessness\, of eternity\, of a tradition extending backward into generations. Lee Fields music has been chopped up and sampled by hip hop artists as diverse as J. Cole and Travis Scott: Cole\, Fields laughs\, thought that the sample was taken from a song “from back in the day.” It wasn’t\, in the strictest sense — Cole sampled “My World Is Empty Without You” and “Ladies\,” which were both from Fields’ album My World\, made in 2009 — in a deeper sense\, it was true. Fields’ music doesn’t belong to Now; it belongs to eternity. He has been testifying\, in the purest sense of the word\, since Otis Redding was alive. He is living history. \nWatch Lee Fields & The Expressions \n URL:https://sierranevada.com/event/sierra-nevada-presents-lee-fields-the-expressions/ LOCATION:Big Room\, 1075 East 20th Street\, Chico\, CA\, 95928\, United States CATEGORIES:Sierra Nevada Presents! John McCutcheon w/ special guest Red Tail Ring\n\nClick Here For Tickets!\n\n\n\nNo one remembers when the neighbors started calling the McCutcheons to complain about the loud singing from young John’s bedroom. It didn’t seem to do much good\, though. For\, after a shaky\, lopsided battle between piano lessons and baseball (he was a mediocre pianist and an all-star catcher)\, he had “found his voice” thanks to a cheap mail-order guitar and a used book of chords. \nFrom such inauspicious beginnings\, John McCutcheon has emerged as one of our most respected and loved folksingers. As an instrumentalist\, he is a master of a dozen different traditional instruments\, most notably the rare and beautiful hammer dulcimer. His songwriting has been hailed by critics and singers around the globe. His thirty recordings have garnered every imaginable honor including seven Grammy nominations. He has produced over twenty albums of other artists\, from traditional fiddlers to contemporary singer-songwriters to educational and documentary works. His books and instructional materials have introduced budding players to the joys of their own musicality. And his commitment to grassroots political organizations has put him on the front lines of many of the issues important to communities and workers. \nEven before graduating summa cum laude from Minnesota’s St. John’s University\, this Wisconsin native literally “headed for the hills\,” forgoing a college lecture hall for the classroom of the eastern Kentucky coal camps\, union halls\, country churches\, and square dance halls. His apprenticeship to many of the legendary figures of Appalachian music imbedded a love of not only home-made music\, but a sense of community and rootedness. The result is music…whether traditional or from his huge catalog of original songs…with the profound mark of place\, family\, and strength. It also created a storytelling style that has been compared to Will Rogers and Garrison Keillor. \nThe Washington Post described John as folk music’s “Rustic Renaissance Man\,” a moniker flawed only by its understatement. “Calling John McCutcheon a ‘folksinger’ is like saying Deion Sanders is just a football player…” (Dallas Morning News). Besides his usual circuit of major concert halls and theaters\, John is equally at home in an elementary school auditorium\, a festival stage or at a farm rally. He is a whirlwind of energy packing five lifetimes into one. In the past few years alone he has headlined over a dozen different festivals in North America (including repeated performances at the National Storytelling Festival)\, recorded an original composition for Virginia Public Television involving over 500 musicians\, toured Australia for the sixth time\, toured Chile in support of a women’s health initiative\, appeared in a Woody Guthrie tribute concert in New York City\, gave a featured concert at the Smithsonian Folklife Festival\, taught performance art skills at a North Carolina college\, given symphony pops concerts across America\, served as President of the fastest-growing Local in the Musicians Union and performed a special concert at the National Baseball Hall of Fame. This is all in his “spare time.” His “real job\,” he’s quick to point out\, is father to two grown sons. \nBut it is in live performance that John feels most at home. It is what has brought his music into the lives and homes of one of the broadest audiences any folk musician has ever enjoyed. People of every generation and background seem to feel at home in a concert hall when John McCutcheon takes the stage\, with what critics describe as “little feats of magic\,” “breathtaking in their ease and grace…\,” and “like a conversation with an illuminating old friend.” \nWhether in print\, on record\, or on stage\, few people communicate with the versatility\, charm\, wit or pure talent of John McCutcheon. \nWatch John McCutcheon \nWith special guest Red Tail Ring \n\n\n\n\n URL:https://sierranevada.com/event/john-mccutcheon-w-special-guest-red-tail-ring/ LOCATION:Big Room\, 1075 East 20th Street\, Chico\, CA\, 95928\, United States ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/jpeg:https://sierranevada.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/e55687d847819b4d234b45d69ee07349.jpg GEO:39.724193;-121.8153557 X-APPLE-STRUCTURED-LOCATION;VALUE=URI;X-ADDRESS=Big Room 1075 East 20th Street Chico CA 95928 United States;X-APPLE-RADIUS=500;X-TITLE=1075 East 20th Street:geo:-121.8153557,39.724193 END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/Los_Angeles:20200115T190000 DTEND;TZID=America/Los_Angeles:20200115T223000 DTSTAMP:20191118T152612 CREATED:20190924T215218Z LAST-MODIFIED:20191031T191556Z UID:5066-1579114800-1579127400@sierranevada.com SUMMARY:Sierra Nevada Presents! Chadwick Stokes & the Pintos w/ Daniel Rodriguez DESCRIPTION:Chadwick Stokes (of Dispatch and State Radio) is an accomplished musician and songwriter who grew up on a small farm outside of Boston. A songwriter since early adolescence\, his many projects have woven together music\, art\, history and activism. From Dispatch\, which he started in his early 20s; to his politically driven band\, State Radio; to his nascent solo project\, Chadwick Stokes and the Pintos\, Chad has committed himself to using music as a vehicle for social and political change. Along with his wife\, Sybil\, he founded Calling All Crows\, a non-profit organization dedicated to engaging music fans around women’s issues both at home and abroad. They’ve worked to bring awareness to the worldwide refugee crisis\, to the proliferation of violence against women and to the persistence of sexual violence within the music industry. Through his many years of working independently within what can be a difficult industry\, Chadwick has been continually motivated by his love of music and the people he makes it with. \n$1 from each ticket sale will go to Calling All Crows’ Here for the Music campaign to prevent sexual violence at shows and festivals through education and training. \n  \nColorado singer-songwriter\, Daniel Rodriguez\, turns to his acoustic guitar for memorable\, melodic hooks to accompany his poetic and contemplative folk songs. Boulder Weekly refers to Rodriguez’s voice as “a timeless voice\, deep and hearty\, weathered but comforting.” \nWith over a decade under his belt as one of the founding members and lead songwriters of the transcendental folk band\, Elephant Revival\, Rodriguez is well-versed in the Americana tour circuit. Before going on hiatus\, after their third headlining Red Rocks show in May 2018\, Elephant Revival had released six albums and performed countless shows and festivals across the nation as well as overseas. \nNeeding to fill the musical void that might have become following Elephant Revival’s hiatus announcement\, Rodriguez immediately headed out on tour as a solo artist. He’s been chosen as main support for bands and shared stages with such acts as Jim James\, Gregory Alan Isakov\, Mandolin Orange\, Josh Ritter\, Fruition and John Craigie in addition to being added to numerous festivals like Northwest String Summit\, Lyons Folk Fest\, Jam Cruise and WinterWonderGrass. \nDaniel Rodriguez released his debut collection of songs as an EP titled Your Heart The Stars The Milky Way on February 15\, 2019. \n URL:https://sierranevada.com/event/sierra-nevada-presents-chadwick-stokes-the-pintos/ LOCATION:Big Room\, 1075 East 20th Street\, Chico\, CA\, 95928\, United States CATEGORIES:Sierra Nevada Presents! The first EP\, Creatures\, Vol. 1: Spark\, was released earlier this Summer on Brushfire Records. As a sneak preview\, the first track from Weave\, “Baby Blind Spot”\, is available on all digital services today. Fans can buy or stream the new track here: https://ffm.to/alobbs and below is a YouTube embed link. \nWeave features four new tracks by founding members Zach Gill (keys\, vocals)\, Dan “Lebo” Lebowitz (guitars\, vocals) and Steve Adams (bass\, vocals)\, as well as the band’s newest member\, Ezra Lipp on drums. \nAs with the first EP\, the new release was engineered and mixed by long-time ALO collaborators Dave Simon-Baker and Mike Cresswell\, with additional recording done by the band at home studios. The ongoing series tracks the development of the new lineup with Lipp\, while still maintaining that familiar ALO sound. Old school listeners have been raving about the band’s live sets at recent festivals (High Sierra Music Festival\, Camp Deep End)\, and Weave has bottled that energy well. The band can’t wait for fans to hear the new songs. Gill explains\, “There are a whole lot of blind spots in our collective sphere of human awareness. Sometimes we crash right into them. Sometimes it’s tragic\, sometimes it’s comedic… hopefully it’s at least educational.“ \nALO is also excited to announce their 14th annual Tour D’Amour. The first leg will include headlining shows in California\, as well as 2 co-headlining nights with Twiddle in the Pacific Northwest. These dates have been added to a tour schedule that includes a previously announced co-headlining show with Leftover Salmon at the Warfield in San Francisco on March 7th\, as well as 2 sets at Winter Wondergrass in Steamboat Springs\, CO. This Will Destroy You w/ Amulets DESCRIPTION:This Will Destroy You is committed to rock the Big Room stage after their first show was cancelled due to the Camp Fire.\n\n\nFormed in the early 00’s\, THIS WILL DESTROY YOU have spent the last decade and a half touring the planet relentlessly between recording studio albums and core members Jeremy Galindo and Chris King scoring various films\, television\, culinary\, and other creative entertainment projects in their relative downtime. \nThe band initially broke in the United Kingdom despite their home base at the time being almost 5\,000 miles away. 2006’s debut album Young Mountain was proclaimed “Album of the Year” in Rock Sound by then-editor Darren Taylor\, igniting curiosity\, interest\, and touring opportunities unimaginable to that point. It was also during this time that the band’s label stateside began lining up synchronization opportunities that sowed the seeds for what was to come. \n2008’s Self-Titled album ushered in an era where the band truly grew a global fanbase\, as the record remains their top-grossing title to date and the band was able to graduate to headliner status in large venues everywhere. Toward the end of the album’s initial cycle\, Hollywood and the entertainment world at large came calling in a major way\, largely sparked by Brad Pitt and director Bennett Miller’s passionate enthusiasm for the band. The duo initially paired THIS WILL DESTROY YOU’s “The Mighty Rio Grande” to 5 crucial acts in 2011’s “Moneyball\,” with “Villa Del Refugio” then going into Pitt’s subsequent “World War Z” and Miller’s next film “Foxcatcher.” The licensing landscape exploded from there\, as the band and the first two albums were represented across all major sporting events (Super Bowl\, World Series\, Stanley Cup\, Wimbledon\, ESPY’s\, et al)\, cultural shifts (the UFC’s rollout package for Ronda Rousey)\, Hollywood’s biggest night (see: Tom Cruise introducing the nominees and awarding “Best Picture” over “The Mighty Rio Grande” at the 2012 Oscars)\, and numerous Emmy-award winning dramas on television. \n2011 saw a change in rhythm section and an experiment in the darker capacities of the band. Tunnel Blanket features the most raw and visceral material in the band’s catalog. The band stayed on the road (including a meaningful run in direct support of Deftones)\, issued a triple live album (2013’s Live in Reykjavik\, Iceland)\, and began formulating what would become 2014’s Another Language album\, an exemplar of the band and producer John Congleton’s studio prowess. \nFrom 2016-2018\, the band was able to successfully stage special 10th anniversary shows and tours celebrating Young Mountain and Self-Titled at high-capacity\, sold out gigs around the globe\, punctuated by being hand-picked by The Cure to perform in front of tens of thousands at the band’s 40th anniversary concert in London’s historic Hyde Park. On the front end of that cycle\, Galindo and King also managed to successfully pull off writing and recording the ambitious score to the most talked-about new restaurant of 2018\, Los Angeles\, Calfornia’s Vespertine. \nRather than rest on the laurels of an enormous\, two-year victory lap around the globe\, THIS WILL DESTROY YOU will drop their fifth studio full-length album on September 28\, 2018. Another full North American headlining tour follows in the biggest venues the band has carried to date with plenty more activity TBA. \n\n\n\nWatch This Will Destroy You \n\n\n\nAmulets is the solo project of Portland-based audio + visual artist Randall Taylor. Amulets employs handmade cassette tape loops and live processed guitar loops to create live\, lush soundscapes and immersive drones. Through the recontextualisation of cassettes\, sampling\, field recording\, and looping\, these long-form compositions blur the genres of ambient\, drone\, noise\, and electronic music. \n\n\n URL:https://sierranevada.com/event/sierra-nevada-presents-this-will-destroy-you-w-amulets/ LOCATION:Big Room\, 1075 East 20th Street\, Chico\, CA\, 95928\, United States CATEGORIES:Music ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/jpeg:https://sierranevada.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/ff4d3c10b0248659e16aaba15cac31e8-e1570831274701.jpg GEO:39.724193;-121.8153557 X-APPLE-STRUCTURED-LOCATION;VALUE=URI;X-ADDRESS=Big Room 1075 East 20th Street Chico CA 95928 United States;X-APPLE-RADIUS=500;X-TITLE=1075 East 20th Street:geo:-121.8153557,39.724193 END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/Los_Angeles:20200327T180000 DTEND;TZID=America/Los_Angeles:20200327T210000 DTSTAMP:20191118T152612 CREATED:20191011T191041Z LAST-MODIFIED:20191011T220543Z UID:5207-1585332000-1585342800@sierranevada.com SUMMARY:An Evening with Paul Thorn DESCRIPTION:\n\n\nPaul Thorn has created an innovative and impressive career\, pleasing crowds with his muscular brand of roots music – bluesy\, rocking and thoroughly Southern American\, yet also speaking universal truths. \nAmong those who value originality\, inspiration\, eccentricity and character – as well as talent that hovers somewhere on the outskirts of genius\, the story of Paul Thorn is already familiar. Raised in Tupelo\, Mississippi\, among the same spirits (and some of the actual people) who nurtured the young Elvis generations before\, Paul Thorn has rambled down back roads and jumped out of airplanes\, worked for years in a furniture factory\, battled four-time world champion boxer Roberto Duran on national television\, signed with and been dropped by a major label\, performed [on stages with Bonnie Raitt\, Mark Knopfler\, Sting\, and John Prine among many others\, and made some of the most emotionally restless yet fully accessible music of our time. \nHe’s also appeared on major television shows such as Late Night with Conan O’Brien and Jimmy Kimmel Live\, been the subject of numerous National Public Radio (NPR) features and charted multiple times on the Billboard Top 100 and Americana Radio Charts. \nIn 2018\, Paul released an album titled Don’t Let the Devil Ride\, which he describes as “the culmination of my whole life in music\, coming back to my roots.” It marks his first time recording gospel music – featuring guests such as the Blind Boys of Alabama\, the McCrary Sisters\, and Preservation Hall Horns – and his creation of a body of strikingly original songs that address the foibles of human relationships without necessarily favoring the sacred over the profane. \n\n\n\n\n URL:https://sierranevada.com/event/an-evening-with-paul-thorn/ LOCATION:Big Room\, 1075 East 20th Street\, Chico\, CA\, 95928\, United States ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/jpeg:https://sierranevada.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/70bfcf18a20087818858e50131c07aa2-e1570831522347.jpg GEO:39.724193;-121.8153557 X-APPLE-STRUCTURED-LOCATION;VALUE=URI;X-ADDRESS=Big Room 1075 East 20th Street Chico CA 95928 United States;X-APPLE-RADIUS=500;X-TITLE=1075 East 20th Street:geo:-121.8153557,39.724193 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
